Yohoho, me hearties! It's time once again to see what looks good in gaming for the upcoming year. To be honest, 2008 looks like a light year for PC games, unless you're into strategy games. Thankfully, I have a 360 now so that will open up my choices a bit. Here's what's on my radar, in no particular order:

Left 4 Dead (PC) - Co-op zombie shooting? YES PLEASE. Every review I read gushes about how awesome this game is to play. It is probably the closest thing to being in a zombie movie until the real zombie apocalypse happens. I consider it a training simulator.

GTA:IV (360) - I've always felt this series was better on a console, and now that I have one I'm interested in checking it out.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (360) - A badass Sith apprentice whose main job seems to be causing as much destruction as possible? Sounds awesome! Also, the Havok/DMM/Euphoria technology trifecta is pretty groundbreaking.

Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness (PC) - Gotta give some love to the PA guys. I'm on the fence about the gameplay, but the writing is sure to be hilarious.

Battlefield Heroes (PC) - This is a free, cartoony Battlefield game. That didn't interest me until I heard that they were going to try to recapture the unrealistic gameplay of Codename Eagle and Battlefield 1942. As for the price (free), it won't be supported by in-game ads. Apparently there will be ads on the community web site, but they are also trying a Korean-MMO style of payment. You'll have in-game money that you earn to customize your character's appearance and abilities. Some items will be available for real-world money, though they'll limit those to things that won't affect gameplay. They estimate that most people will play for free, with the paying minority supporting the game. I really hope it has a blimp.

Ghostbusters: The Video Game (360) - Not much is known about this title, but Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis are working closely on it. It has potential.

Alan Wake (Vista/360) - I guess this is back on my list. I was pissed that they decided to make the PC version a Vista exclusive, but now that I have a 360 that doesn't really matter.

Alone in the Dark (PC/360) - This game has recently gained my attention, though they haven't revealed a whole lot yet. It sounds like a modern third-person puzzle-based adventure game, in which the series has it's roots, though it'll have some action thrown into the mix. Sounds like it could be interesting.

Haze - This game seems to have gone back into stasis, probably because it now appears to be a Playstation 3 exclusive. I'd like to play it, but only if it gets released for PC.

Duke Nukem Forever (PC) - They've finally released a video after seven long years. Will it really come out this year? Who knows. I'll be getting it whenever it comes out, provided I am actually still alive.

Wow, when I started this list I thought it would be painfully short, but I guess there are more games due out this year than I realized. Did I miss anything? What's on your list?

Gah, just when I had just about written off Spore, Newsweek goes and releases a two part interview and gets me interested again. They also confirmed a release date (September 7) so it belongs on the list for 2008. Will it be great, or just a toy that offers a few days of diversion?

Hey man, not to try to derail this thread but i just entered the realm that is XBL. (gamerid: bushwashere - add me bitches)

I've very much looking forward to many of the games you listed, especially with my new netflixs for gamers subscription at gamefly.

LINKAGE: http://friends.GameFly.com/r/86baceaa2d56102b919d

Everyone subscribe so i can get free stuff

Anyway, I busting through some xbox games to get caught up and am on a stint of coop heavy games, which leads me to some games that aren't on your list.

The Club: headshooting, twich lovin, 3rd person goodness 'ala gears of war.
Army of Two: more 3rd person goodness.

Check em out; they may not make game of the year, but they sure will be a hell of a lot of fun. OH and as far as I'm concerned, if you haven't played through Gears of War yet, your xbox might as well be a paper weight.

Oh and Vincent, XBL has original Prince of Persia in HD . You should see it on my screen.

You got a 360? Awesomesauce! My gamertag is CrazyVincent7 if you wanna add me. I don't go online very often though.

I gotta check out The Club demo, I DL'd it last week but haven't installed it yet. Army of Two looks interesting if only because it's co-op, but I don't plan on signing up for XBL Gold anytime soon. And I was gonna get Gears for PC because it has a bunch of extra content. Actually, given the choice between PC and 360 for games, I will almost always go with the PC.

Yeah, I gotta check out PoP, I knew it was out. That will be the fifth platform that I own the original PoP on. I've been playing through the Sands of Time series on my Gamecube since I never finished it before. Actually I gotta go through the entire XBL arcade and see what's there. I picked up Untertow for free a few weeks ago, it's pretty fun. Pac-Man Championship edition looks cool too, and I should probably get Geometry Wars so I don't feel bad about playing Grid Wars for so long. Actually I still play Rainbow Wars from time to time.

So what's good in the 360 back catalog? The only game I can remember really wanting to play is Dead Rising, I'll probably pick it up if it drops in price a little more. I heard Crackdown was pretty good but with GTA:IV around the corner I don't know if I need two massive games.

Crackdown is cool, but repetitive once you figure out how to beat the bosses. Bush is avoiding playing with me because his loser agent can't jump.

I might not be able to jump yet, but my arms are JACKED UP!! Maybe next time I'm in game with you i'll throw a car at you and see if YOU can jump over it!

Oh and vincent, angie and i played though TMNT 1989 coinop then other day, just to take a trip down memory lane. If i was using real coins I think I probably spent 50$ beating it,

OH man Vincent you gotta play gears on the xbox. Gears is what every 3rd person shooter for console should be. Maybe if I'm nice I'll let you borrow it.

I actually like Call of Duy 4 better than Gears. Gears is good, but its not the Guinness of shooters.

FYI - Guitar Hero : aerosmith coming this June.

Ahh see but I said 3rd person shooter not 1st. CoD4 is a first person shooter, which are much more suited for PC, which is where I played through CoD4. On the hardest difficulty too whoooohooo. But i digress....

No Oblivion but playing through bioshock right now vincent. Bioshock is freaking sick looking! Another shameless plug, gamefly roxs!

My bad, 3rd person vs 1st person.

Viv says PS3 is better than xbox 360 anyway, because Blu Ray is amazing, and even though my first PS3 died, the 360 crashes on a frequent basis, often stopping the rock, which is unacceptable. Wii is actually kind of lame, I do not understand the commercial craze over that thing. It is just collecting dust in my entertainment center until Mari Kart Wii comes out. I am a spoiled console gamer with all of those things hanging out in the living room.

Have either of you guys gotten tendonitis in your elbow from playing too much guitar hero and rock band? I have basketball playoffs this week, and I am NOT happy that I have a video game injury that could slow me down.

Bush, is your lame little agent about ready to invite a real man into his neighborhood? Agent Viv-o is ready to protect and serve.

Well, we might be seeing a Blu-ray player for the 360 soon, so that would lessen the PS3's advantage. Also, make sure your 360 has good ventilation, both the console and the power brick, it could be crashing because it overheats.

Since you're talking 3rd person, I played through Assassin's Creed, it's the only non-rocking game that I have for my 360. Not a shooter, but it does have some sweet parkour-inspired movement. The ending is super-lame though.

I can't access that 360 Blu Ray player site at work, but my guess is it will stink for me because my 360 is a component cable hook up without HDMI. Plus, I am sure it is at least $200+, and that makes the PS3 a better value overall.

I own all 3 systems, PS3 is basically equal to 360 for me, hardware reliability issues aside. However, I am leaning towards buying all of my new games on PS3 because the hardware is beefy and should begin to show that once these game designer / programmer clowns get their act together. I do own all of the rock gear on the 360, so I will continue to waste money on new rock games and marketplace songs, because I refuse to buy it again for PS3.

My question is...when will I grow up and stop playing games?? The answer is most likely...never. Awesome.
