Yeah, I would assume those numbers still count Darrell and I, among others, who have given up on PC gaming for consoles 9and what is their source....PC's sold?). Its obvious the "installed base" for PCs is HUGE. My wife has 2 pcs for crying out loud. She plays 360, if anything, so do her 2 PC's count in that number because she plays snood? Maybe, but the numbers are misleading. The numbers that matter are software sales trends. The 360 has been out for 2.5 years....the PC has been around in a large way since the 90's - of course there will be more installed base. But who is selling more software, and which way is it going? and by the way, you have to account for library size, since you can literally play game from 1980 on your PC is you want, not so much with the consoles.

They are different beasts to be sure, but you didn't see MS talk about their latest PC game coming out at E3. There is a reason for that. I would also guess that whoever wrote the PC is the future article is a big WoW goon...kind of like a right wing crackpot talking about what a great President George Bush has been...not exactly a good source.

I love this arguement; PC vs Console. You know why? Because I'm sure there will never be a winner and because of this the competition will cause us gamers to get "bigger, better and more badass" video games on every platform!

Maybe - or the sales of one suffer, causing them to release McVideo Games because dollars are tight, and then we all lose, because competition gets lessened. Or, people blindly continue to buy the Wii, even though it sucks, and Nintendo continues to release Wii Farting and Wii Potty Training, and we all lose again.

Really, this seems to happen every 5-6 years or so. Consoles pull ahead of PCs in terms of price/performance, and everyone exclaims "PC is dead!" But by the middle to end of the consoles' lifetime, PCs will find some new niche and gain back some ground. I'm sure there will be some new thing that PCs are uniquely suited for in the next couple years, but for now the consoles are definitely dominating.

But Bush is right, all this competition is good for the end consumer. If PCs weren't around pushing graphics, we'd still be playing the SNES. You don't have guys like Carmack and Sweeney developing advanced rendering on consoles because they have fixed hardware.
